Disney's live-action Snow White continues to be a matter of controversy, as the film's portrayal of the seven dwarves using computer-generated imagery has caught the attention of actors with dwarfism, who are opening up on the studio's lack of inclusivity.

Directed by Mark Webb, Snow White has been knee-deep in controversy ever since the film was announced, as fans have expressed outrage and disappointment at the studio bringing in quite some major changes to the classic tale. In an attempt to appear 'woke' and fit in better with the current generation, the film's plot was altered, the prince omitted, the meaning of the titular princess' name changed, and heavy graphics for the dwarves were used.

Previously, Peter Dinklage talked about the film's lack of inclusivity as it refused to cast real-life actors for the roles of the seven dwarves. After the Game of Thrones actor's outrage, Greg Doherty, who portrayed the role of a goblin in the Harry Potter franchise, is now speaking up against the studio.

Talking about how actors with dwarfism already face a scarcity of work and addressing Disney's refusal to cast real actors in the film, Doherty said,

"Film work for little people doesn't come around too often, but when it does it's really enjoyable, which makes what Disney is doing so disappointing. I think they've gone backwards. What they have done is deny very talented and hard-working people with dwarfism that are out there and could have fulfilled these roles."

Continuing, he adds,

"You can see them in their interviews, on the streets; they aren't CGI dwarves, they're real people. There are many people that I know with dwarfism and this has upset them. By Disney doing this, they've gotten rid of those little people being able to have a chance for community in and around the shoots, and have basically said they don't need these people in the future."

How has Disney addressed the criticism surrounding CGI dwarves?

Disney's failure to include actors with dwarfism in the film is indeed a breach of their attempts at inclusivity. While the studio has repeatedly chosen to switch races of popular characters to promote an all-embracing cast and crew in their newer films, the CGI dwarves do push them three steps backwards as the outrage continues.

The studio did react to all the criticism Snow White got after the film was revealed to have used graphics to portray the seven dwarves. In a statement given to Good Morning America, a spokesperson for the studio said,

"To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community. We look forward to sharing more as the film heads into production after a lengthy development period."

Snow White is available to watch in theaters.
