"This time, Halle got a redo" - Sherri Shepard reacts to Halle Berry and Adrien Brody's kiss at the Oscars

The Oscars this year were full of surprises, making it a night to remember. One standout moment occurred on the red carpet when Halle Berry had a playful reunion with Adrien Brody, who was nominated for Best Actor.

In the now-viral clip, Berry is seen sneaking up on Brody before surprising him with a kiss, her way of delivering a lighthearted "payback". The moment took many viewers back to 2003 when Berry, the Best Actress winner from the previous year, presented Brody with the Best Actor Award for The Pianist.

As Brody took the stage, he seized the moment and passionately kissed Berry before quipping “I bet they didn’t tell you that was in the gift bag,” before continuing with his speech. At the time Berry was married to singer-songwriter Eric Benét.

She later shared a video of their red carpet reunion in a playful nod to their infamous Oscar moment.

"Surpriseee @adrienbrody!! I had to get some payback 😉🫶🏽" she tweeted.

Before kissing The Brutalist actor, Berry is seen saying, "I'm sorry, Georgina, but I gotta do it." Reflecting on the night over 20 years ago, Halle Berry shared in an interview with Variety that she got to return the favor after all these years.

"That was one hell of a night for him, and for me as well. To be a part of his moment… tonight I had to pay him back,” the actresss jokingly said.

She continued:

"I've seen him out at parties, but this is the first time since that night that I’ve seen him on the red carpet somewhere. He’s nominated this year. He deserved that.”

This interaction has the internet divided, and Sherri Shepard is no exception. The Emmy-winning comedian has mixed feelings about the moment. In her morning talk show, Sherri, she both praised and criticized the moment.

She said:

“Halle, I do want to say I know you were just trying to recreate a moment, and you did it girl,. This time, Halle got a redo. Look at Adrien Brody, got his eyes all closed."

But on the other hand, she also slammed Halle Berry for what she considers to be disrespectful behavior.

“If Adrien Brody was my man, they’d be like, ‘Is that a tattoo of Sherri’s hand on your face?’ That’d been Will Smith Part 2 at the Oscars. I don’t play, I don’t play like that. That b-word would have been flying around on that red carpet.”

Georgina Chapman, Adrien Brody's partner, who was present when the iconic moment was recreated, later commented on the incident saying:

“I mean how can you deny a man a kiss with Halle Berry?” adding that Brody was completely fine with the kisss on Sunday.
