Former President Bill Clinton referred to US Senate Candidate Kari Lake as “physically attractive” during a campaign in Arizona. He was speaking in support of Lake’s opponent, Democrat Ruben Gallego and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Kari Lake and Ruben Gallego are in a head-to-head battle for Senator Krysten Sinema’s Arizona Senate seat. Kamala Harris is facing off against Donald Trump in the ongoing race for presidential elections.
During one of his critical statements in his speech, Clinton slammed Lake but also called her “physically attractive.” In response to his comment, the former TV broadcaster said that she is “flattered”, but also took a jibe at Clinton by saying doesn’t he prefer interns who are much younger than her.
Bill Clinton’s comment on Kari Lake’s physical appearance has left the internet divided. Here is how the internet reacted –
"Bill shooting that shot," an X user wrote.
"Kari Lake is about to get Monica Lewinsky’d," another user tweeted.
"Kinda weird endorsement, but an endorsement nonetheless," another X user said.
One user tweeted,
A person tweeted that if Bill Clinton gave it a thought before blurting it out.
How Lake reacted to Clinton’s comments?
Where on one hand, Clinton called Ruben Gallego someone,
"that grew up under sometimes challenging circumstances, who made something of his life."
On the other hand, he called Lake,
"someone who is physically attractive but believes that politics is a performance art, and where, like JD Vance, she has to be prostrate before the master."
When Kari Lake came to know about Clinton’s flirtatious comments on her physical appeal, she could not help herself from bashing me in public.
"I actually woke up this morning and I found out one of the more familiar Democrats was in town, and his name is Bill Clinton....actually paid me a compliment. He was here campaigning for Ruben Gallego, my cop-hating, open borders, anti-woman opponent. And Bill Clinton, he paid me a compliment. He said I was physically attractive.”
She accepted his compliment while taking a jibe on the former president,
"First of all, you know what? As a middle-aged woman, I'm flattered," Lake added. “I'm flattered, okay? I don't get those kinds of compliments every day. Two, I thought I was a little too old for him. Doesn't he like interns?"
However, this is not the first time Clinton has been an embarrassment in the state of Arizona. In June 2016, when Clinton appeared in Arizona while campaigning for his wife Hilary during the presidential elections, his meeting with Attorney General Loretta Lynch gave rise to a controversy.
In the scandal, it was alleged that Clinton and Lynch were discussing about Hilary's use of a private email server as Secretary of State when she was working under the administration of former US President Barack Obama.
Journalist Christopher Sign broke the story on June 29, 2016. Three years post the incident, he released a book titled, "Secrets on the Tarmac."
It discussed in detail about Lynch's 20-minute meeting with former US President Bill Clinton.
The controversy had a negative impact on Clinton's presidential stance as he lost the seat to Donald Trump.
