Legendary Good Times actor John Amos died of congestive heart failure on August 21 in Los Angeles, Fox News Digital and Variety reported. The news of his demise, which was confirmed nearly 45 days later, had many paying their respects.
Among them, a woman named Maryah Cobb's tribute on Facebook from October 1, 2024, was the most bizarre, as it claimed the two had engaged in intimacy.
She uploaded an image of her next to the actor, and the caption and the follow-up comments read:
"Rip to a legend john Amos remember I put this P***y on you so good this day you could barely move. When we first met he said he loved my tattoos I said ohhh this finna be a GOOD TIME. If y'all wanna meet John Amos Lady'I'll be at bloom on Oct 5."
However, the internet went into a frenzy, pointing out that the caption was inappropriate and disrespectful to the dead. One user commented,
"This is beyond disrespectful to his family and other loved ones. Anything to go viral I guess."
Scores of fans were appalled at the sight of the post, as the comments section was riddled with common sentiments.
"If they have different entrances to hell….. u gotta find each and every entrance to go through for this," one user stated.
"I had to log off work because wwwwwhhhhhhaaaaatttttt lmfaoooo" another user stated.
"Y’all will literally disrespect the dead and their family just to go viral, it's disgusting. He has a whole family mourning and you post some ds like this. It's giving desperate to be somebody," yet another commented.
"This is disrespectful on all levels his family just loss him An u say this," one user commented.
"I hope the family sue," another declared.
The raging comments didn't stop there.
"Smfh! That's wild af! Respect for him and his family just didn't come to mind huh," one stated.
"That is a sick and disrespectful," another spewed.
"Baby gone head and pack your bags… The Devil waiting on you!" one user reckoned.
However, a few in the comments section took the post lightly, humorously asking if she made it to the will or not, and that at least John Amos had a good time when he was alive, as someone put it.
John Amos' son confirms his death in a statement
John Amos' son, Kelly Cristopher Amos, announced his death on October 1, 2024, Fox News reported. He was most known for his role as the weatherman on The Mary Tyler Moore Show as Gordon “Gordy” Howard. His son said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter,
"It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned. He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… and he was loved the world over. Many fans consider him their TV father. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor."
He continued, reflecting on his father's work as a thespian.
"My father loved working as an actor throughout his entire life…. most recently in Suits LA playing himself and our documentary about his life journey as an actor, America’s Dad. He was my dad, my best friend, and my hero. Thank you for your prayers and support at this time.”
John Amos was born on December 27, 1939, in Newark. His career saw him lend his knack for comedy on shows like CBS' Good Times, a spinoff of Maude, and All in the Family.
