YouTube channel, Nelk Boys, appears to have enraged the people of Greenland after their recent interaction with a local. For context, the incident follows the President-elect’s interest in acquiring the autonomous and self-governing territory within Denmark with a population of about 56,000 people.
Nelk Boys reportedly went to the country to ask people to join the US. The channel shared a video on Instagram and X where they were seen holding a photo of Donald Trump as they gave a piece of paper to a local saying ‘Welcome to America.’ The person, seemingly enraged, tore the paper, and threw it to the ground as he argued, "Can you buy me?"
As the video went viral, netizens reacted to it with divided attention as some supported it while others did not. One X user wrote:
“They seem to hate us a lot.”
Netizens suggested that the Nelk Boys hold a similar interaction in Canada:
“56,0000 people lol. One small town in Texas could defeat Greenland,” a social media user reacted.
“Aren’t they Canadian?” a person asked on X.
“I’d like to see them do this in Canada next lol,” a netizen suggested.
Social media users voiced for no interference in the affairs of Greenland while others pointed out why the Americans got so much hate:
“Imagine having free health care, free education and woke up next day to pay 100$ for Insulin that used to cost you 10$… leave Greenland alone,” an online user protested.
“This is exactly why nobody around the world like americans, and this is unfortunately why as well stereotypes stick around and affect the image of all americans even the folks that are cool and nice...” an online commentator opined.
Nelk Boys appeared to campaign with ‘Make Greenland Great Again’
In another segment of the video posted by Nelk Boys, the person threw a MAGA cap to the ground and rubbed his shoes on it. This was followed by other confrontations. The local was also asked if he ever tried anything from the restaurant chain Raising Cane’s. The person who asked said:
“If you did the chicken tender and ranch and you don’t want to join the USA, then I respect you.”
On January 14, 2024, Nelk Boys shared a photo on X in which member Kyle held a photo of Donald Trump while Salim had a document with ‘Welcome Greenland to the USA’ written on it. The document is reportedly the petition they wanted the locals to sign expressing their desire to join the US.
According to a report by Today, Donald Trump might even use military force to seize control of the autonomous country. During a press conference, the President-elect said the autonomous territory is needed for national security purposes.
Denmark’s Prime Minister has reportedly said Greenland was not up for sale but is open to having conversations with him. Trump’s idea of annexing the country has been mocked by several personalities including Stephen Colbert.
