In a live video, rapper and singer Jermaine Dupri shared his thoughts regarding today’s R&B music. He said the present generation missed on important lessons because they didn’t attend church.

During an Instagram livestream, Dupri explained that the lack of church influence is why today’s R&B singers are not on the same ground as those from the 1990s.

He cited legendary artists such as Bryan-Michael Cox and Jodeci to support his argument. Jermaine Dupri said:

“Young Black youth of today don’t go to church and they don’t have that church band grooming. Like B. Cox came from the church. Jodeci comes from church. So, when you listen to that soul, that soul that you think is soul, it’s an added piece of information.”

He further added that the soulfulness that many listeners associated with classic R&B originated from a church upbringing. After the livestream went viral, social media users started weighing in their thoughts and opinions. One Instagram user wrote:

“It’s impacting society period. These kids have no spiritual foundation.”

Netizens seemed to support Jermaine Dupri’s opinions as Instagram users wrote that there was a lack of the church’s influence in other aspects of life.

“Outside of music there’s a lack of church in EVERYTHING!”
“Thats a fact. Even in life overall you have to the church/religion instilled in your way of living. Add God and Jesus to your life.”
“HE AINT LYING!!!! Some of thee absolute best musicians in the industry were trained in CHURCH!

Some social media users reflected that the church has been changing today as children are no longer forced to go.

“Churches are focused on streams and mega platforms now. There is no youth choir, youth Sunday, or youth Annual Day.”
“This generation not being forced to go to church like we had too lol.”
“Unpopular Opinion: The best concerts be in church.”

Jermaine Dupri said R. Kelly is the ‘R’ in R&B

During the same livestream, Dupri expressed his views on R. Kelly's impact on R&B, emphasizing that despite the controversies surrounding him, Kelly remained a defining figure in the genre. He pointed to Anthony Hamilton as an example, referencing a recent collaboration that would be releasing on October 4, 2024.

He explained that Hamilton’s voice carried the influence of performing music in church, something that, according to Dupri, could not be learned online. Dupri said given the absence of the ‘church’ element, it would be difficult to surpass singers like Jodeci.

In another news, Jermaine Dupri shared that he first experimented with "feeling the beets" 12 years ago, and immediately noticed a positive change. Though he didn’t initially label his approach, he realized he wanted to stick with healthy eating. It was his friends who pointed out that he was essentially adopting a vegan lifestyle, and the journey continued from there.

Jermaine Dupri noted that those struggling with low energy or constant fatigue could noticeably benefit from a vegan lifestyle, as it promotes overall health and well-being. He emphasized that adopting this lifestyle led to him experiencing better energy levels and was also essential in him maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
