Michelle Monaghan, who is making headlines with The White Lotus nowadays, has joined the cast of the upcoming James Ashcroft film, The Whisper Man, based on the New York Times bestselling novel of the same name by Alex North. The actress will portray an investigator looking into a child's abduction in the film.
Alongside her is the veteran Robert De Niro who is playing a retired detective and father of a widowed writer whom Adam Scott is portraying. No other stars have been confirmed for the film, nor do we have a release date for it at the time of writing.
Interestingly, Michelle Monaghan was a part of True Detective Season 1, where she played the wife of detective, Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson). Matthew McConaughey also stars as Detective Rust Cohle in it. The season is considered the best out of four to date by fans and critics alike. Now Monaghan herself is playing a detective.
The Whisper Man will be Monaghan's first outing as a detective
Michelle Monaghan has been a part of numerous films dealing with spies and soldiers, including multiple Mission: Impossible movies, Fort Bliss (2014), Black Site (2022), and more, but she hasn't filled the shoes of a detective herself. The Whisper Man will be her first outing as one.
The film's synopsis as per IMDb reads:
"A grieving father and his young son relocate to the quiet town of Featherbank, which was terrorized by a serial killer known as The Whisper Man 15 years earlier, while rumors circulated that Whisper Man worked with an accomplice."
That is sort of a similar case with Adam Scott, who has played several roles but none of them counts as an author.
While we don't know how the movie will adapt the original story from the novel, we can deduce who is playing whom in the upcoming film if we go by the book. Considering that Robert De Niro, Adam Scott, and Michelle Monaghan are likely to be playing Pete Willis, Tom Kennedy, and Amanda Beck in it respectively.
Other characters that are part of the story include Jake Kennedy, Norman Collins, Francis Carter, and more. Given that the film only had three actors in its cast, we are likely to see more stars joining De Niro, Monaghan, and Scott soon.
