Hurry Up Tomorrow starring The Weeknd is getting a lot of buzz. It does not come as a surprise considering the massive popularity of this R&B Pop star. He was the top male artist on Spotify in 2024 despite having no new release. So, his fans have been eagerly waiting for news about its release date. According to the reports, The Weeknd's film will be released in North American theatres on May 16, 2025.
The Weeknd (real name: Abel Tesfaye) is set to co-star with Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) and Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) in this psychological thriller. It lines up with his forthcoming album and a one-night 2025 concert by the same name. Known mainly for his musical career, the film will be his feature-starring debut. It will be produced by Manic Phase, his indie banner.
Previously, Tesfaye briefly appeared in A24's Uncut Gems starring Adam Sandler. Besides, he also starred in HBO's The Idol, where he played an egocentric music mogul. He co-created this project with Reza Fahim and Euphoria fame Sam Levinson. Now, with the film, he finds a new A24 connection.
Hurry Up Tomorrow Release Date: More Details
Hurry Up Tomorrow is directed and edited by Trey Edward Shults, who has worked extensively with the A24 film studio. Previously, he directed a psychological horror film, It Comes at Night, a coming-of-age drama, Waves, and a psychological thriller, Krisha for the studio.
Now, Shults returns with his new film, which he co-wrote with The Weeknd and Reza Fahim. All of his films have received positive reviews with fresh Rotten Tomatoes ratings above 80% ratings. So, the excitement is over the roof for this new project.
Hurry Up Tomorrow: The Weeknd Album Connection
Besides being The Weeknd's feature film acting debut, Hurry Up Tomorrow has a much stronger connection to his music. This new movie is reportedly inspired by his upcoming album by the same name, set to release on Jan 24, 2025.
The new album marks the third and final chapter in his beloved studio album trilogy. It follows the moody narrative he set out in 2022’s Dawn FM and 2020’s After Hours. Shults' movie will feature songs from the album. So, it's a musically-backed suspense thriller that offers a “first-of-its-kind theatrical experience.” With all the talent on board, it looks like a ride his fans wouldn't want to miss.
