Andrew Ahn's upcoming rom-com remake The Wedding Banquet's official teaser has been dropped by Bleecker Street. A remake of Ang Lee's 1993 successful romantic comedy of the same name, The Wedding Banquet recently marked its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, and has received a heartwarming response, with an IMDB rating of 7.1/10 and an aggregate of 91% at Rotten Tomatoes.
Directed by Andrew Ahn, who has previously written and directed short films such as Andy (2010), and Dol (First Birthday) (2011), also directed full-length feature films namely Spa Night (2016), Driveways (2019), Fire Island (2022), this time comes with The Wedding Banquet. He has co-written the film with James Schamus, who is also one of the producers of the film. It follows the plot of two queer couples who reach out to each other as they are navigating ways of dealing with a whole lot of crises surrounding them.
As per Rotten Tomatoes, the synopsis of the plot of The Wedding Banquet reads:
From Director Andrew Ahn comes a joyful comedy of errors about a chosen family navigating cultural identity, queerness, and family expectations. Frustrated with his commitment-phobic boyfriend Chris and running out of time, Min makes a proposal: a green-card marriage with their friend Angela in exchange for her partner Lee's expensive IVF. Elopement plans are upended, however, when Min's grandmother surprises them with an extravagant Korean wedding banquet. Starring Bowen Yang, Lily Gladstone, Kelly Marie Tran, Han Gi-chan, Joan Chen, and Youn Yuh-jung, The Wedding Banquet is a poignant and heartfelt reminder that being part of a family means learning to both accept and forgive.

The official teaser of The Wedding Banquet has just been dropped by Bleecker Street, who along with ShivHans Pictures are distributing the film. The teaser of The Wedding Banquet is filled with peak hilarious as well as heartfelt moments whilst giving us an insight into the conflicts and errors the characters go through. The teaser could also make people reminiscent of the OG 1993 film and is bound to spark intrigue amongst the audience to eagerly wait for the theatrical release of its contemporary take.
