On November 1, 2024, songwriter and record producer Mariah Carey took to her social media platforms to kick off the Christmas countdown with an enthusiastic "It's... TIME!!!" At the beginning of the video, Carey appears in a Morticia Addams costume, but towards the end, she comes across a Santa suit.
The clip ended with the singer dancing to her legendary track All I Want For Christmas Is You. Internet users appeared thrilled at the video. A person commented,
“the way these get better every year.”
Netizens were excited to see the video as they appreciated the timing at which it was released.
“Mariah Carey as Morticia Addams is everything,” a social media user commented.
“HERE WE GO IT’S MARIAH SEASON,” an X user wrote.
“Iconic that this happened at 12:01am on the dot,” another person remarked.
Social media users were overwhelmed to see Mariah Carey dressed as Morticia Addams, while others called her the ‘queen.’
“OMG MORTICIA!!!! AMAZING!!!!!!” an online user reacted.
“OMG?? THIS IS THE BEST ONE YET,” another X user mentioned.
“THE QUEEN OF CHRISTMAS IS BACK,” a social media user remarked.
“This is so amazing, Queen! So excited to celebrate #MerryChristmas30 with you and the Lambily!” another person wrote.
The clip showed a countdown clock ticking down to midnight on Halloween. When the clock hit zero, a vault opened to reveal Carey encased in ice. Four individuals in Halloween costumes directed hairdryers at the ice to thaw her out, and as she broke free, she declared it was time.
Mariah Carey will start her Christmas tour in November 2024
Mariah Carey will begin her Merry Christmas One and All! tour, starting on November 15, 2024, in Highland, California, and concluding on December 17, 2024, at Madison Square Garden in New York. This 13-date tour marks her longest Christmas season tour and her first full US tour for the holiday show since 2019.
Mariah Carey’s holiday concerts began in 2014 with her All I Want for Christmas Is You mini-residency at New York’s Beacon Theatre. In 2017, she expanded to include a Las Vegas run and shows in Europe. In 2018, the show was exclusive to Europe before returning to North America in 2019. Following a pause during the pandemic, Carey resumed her holiday performances in New York and Toronto last winter.
Last year, Carey launched "MariahSZN" with a playful video. In 2022, she released a clip in which she transformed from a witch on an exercise bike to a festive Mariah in a Santa suit riding a reindeer.
Recently, Mariah Carey has encountered some resistance over her Christmas enthusiasm. This has included a legal dispute over the title "Queen of Christmas" and a Texas bar’s decision to hold off on playing her 1994 Christmas classic.
In 2022, after a trademark challenge by Elizabeth Chan, a dedicated holiday music artist, Carey’s request for exclusive rights to the title, along with "Princess Christmas" and "QOC," was declined.
