The Toxic Avenger reboot will reportedly hit theatres in 2025

A reboot of The Toxic Avenger has been announced and it will be a retelling and a new version of the 1984 namesake film. The film will be released in 2025 and its helmed by Macon Blair. Peter Dinklage, who is known for his performance in Game of Thrones, will be in the lead role.

The reboot of The Toxic Avenger will be dropping its unrated version later in 2025. Blair had earlier directed the dark comedy film I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore.

The Toxic Avenger to be released in 2025

As per Variety, Macon Blair has shared a statement regarding the release of The Toxic Avenger. While the exact release date is yet to be announced, the reboot will be releasing sometime in 2025. Blair wrote:

“I’m beyond grateful to the team behind ‘The Toxic Avenger’ who were so supportive and steady-handed as we searched for the perfect distribution partner for our film."

He further wrote about the film and what it can offer to all the fans. Blair stated,

“It’s so cool that folks will have the chance to see this in theaters, it’s a fun rowdy movie you wanna see with a crowd. Mutant hero smashes bad guys with a mop: perfect entertainment for the whole family! Our goal was always to preserve the heart and spirit of the original Toxie (which was seared into my brain at a very young age) and try to make something that Troma fans would dig and at the same time do something with the character that feels fresh. Lloyd and Michael at Troma have been a blast to work with, absolutely everyone at Legendary are stars, and I can’t wait to start working with the champs at Cinverse to bring this version of Toxie to fans new and old.”

Troma Entertainment and Lloyd Kaufman are the creators of The Toxic Avenger. It has Peter Dinklage starring as Winston Gooze who works as a janitor but became a mutant after facing an accident.

The official synopsis of the film reads,

“Armed with his signature mop, the unlikely hero battles freaks, gangsters and corrupt CEOs while trying to save his relationship with his son. The story channels the subversive gonzo energy of the original ‘Toxic Avenger’ while delivering a fresh, contemporary twist.”

The Toxic Avenger also stars Elijah Wood, Kevin Bacon and Julia Davis along with Jacob Tremblay and Taylour Paige. The script is penned by Blair, taking inspiration from the 1984 film. Lloyd Kaufman, Mary Parent, Alex Garcia and Michael Herz are the producers.
