As of late, Rihanna has been a popular topic of discussion as fans continue to clamor for her to release new music. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rihanna will be voicing the character Smurfette in the upcoming Smurfs animated feature film. This has netizens abuzz, who are eagerly anticipating the film's release on July 18, 2025, according to Deadline.

Rihanna in Smurfs

Rihanna is officially in her “blue era”. She is now the next up in a line of several pop divas to assume the role of Smurfette, a list that includes Katy Perry in 2011's The Smurfs and 2013's sequel The Smurfs 2, and Demi Lovato who took on the part in 2017's Smurfs: The Lost Village.

Based on the characters from the original Peyo comics, the upcoming Smurfs will see the lovable blue characters leaving their village and entering the real world. This time, they're on the hunt for Papa Smurf voiced by John Goodman, who's been kidnapped by the evil wizards Gargamel and Razamel.

They find themselves in Paris, where they ally themselves with Papa Smurf's brother played by Nick Offerman in an attempt to save the day.

The film seems colorful, funny, and heartfelt and looks to capitalize on the success of past iterations, this time perhaps with an even more star-studded cast of voice actors lending their voices to the beloved characters. You can catch the trailer below.

Rihanna's Silver Screen History

Rihanna’s first acting role came in August 2006, but her theatrical debut would come years later in 2012 when she starred as Petty Officer Cora Raines in Battleship. Following this she had a recurring spot on A&E’s Psycho spinoff Bates Motel in its fifth and final season.

Her next major role came in Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. The following year she could be seen as part of an impressive cast in franchise reboot Ocean’s 8 before appearing alongside Donald Glover in Amazon streaming darling Guava Island.

Apart from these roles, she's also made several cameo appearances in television and film. The most memorable perhaps is her brief segment in the apocalypse comedy This is the End.
