The Godzilla x Kong team just got better. Kaitlyn Dever won't just be coming to HBO's The Last of Us Season 2 as Abby to hunt down Joel; she has likely joined the next Monsterverse film, which is currently in development. The last film in the franchise turned out to be the best of all, raking in $571 million at the box office.

The series currently sits with five movies and a couple of TV series (one animated). Although Godzilla and Kong's adventures are a result of a crossover itself, Pacific Rim creators Steven S. DeKnight and Guillermo del Toro have shown interest in a crossover with the Monsterverse.

Insiders have told Deadline that Kaitlyn Dever is currently in negotiations for the next Godzilla x Kong film and might play a major role. They also tell the publication that creators are focusing on the big guys' human allies too. That said, we can expect more than just mega brawls in the film.

As of now, we don't have any official title for the film but Warner Bros., in an announcement last year, mentioned that it is slated for a March 2027 release. Another season for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is in place too but it doesn't have a date like the movie. However, it is likely to be more human-centric, like the new Godzilla x Kong film.

Kaitlyn Dever would be a great addition to the cast, especially after the roles she played in miniseries like Unbelievable and Dopesick for which she landed Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy nominations. The later series saw her portraying Betsy Mallum, a girl who tries to fight her addiction.

Over the years, the Godzilla x Kong universe has become more humane, literally and metaphorically. While we see the leading titans emitting not just radiation but caring for humanity, though in a harsh way, that's tough love. Then we saw Kaylee Hottle's Jia entering the scene and she and Kong bond over their Iwi past.

While every threat that appears in the franchise is essentially cataclysmic, the one to be featured in the upcoming movie is likely to be world-ending. The last time we checked, the world was on the brink of an ice age.

The big guys will be joining forces with their tiny human friends for this; however, several new titans are said to appear. Though who's an ally is still unknown.
