The new Captain America suit in Captain America: Brave New World had this major improvement by Anthony Mackie

Captain America: Brave New World brings Anthony Mackie back as MCU's new Cap. However, this time, there's a major change in his suit.

Mackie began his MCU journey back in 2014 as the Falcon to Steve Rogers' Captain America. Years later, Sam took over Cap's responsibilities and resumed his journey as the new Cap. It all fell into place during The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Marvel's mini-series, when Mackie officially put on the Captain America suit. He donned a white-and-blue attire with a goggle attached to a half-helmet.

However, Captain America: Brave New World shows him sporting a slightly different look. He is still wearing red-tinted goggles but there is no white cowl covering a big part of his head. Turns out, Mackie requested this change as a major improvement during the shoot.

“I told them that I was never wearing that sh*t again, dude."

When speaking about significant change with IGN, Mackie added,

"That was hard. With the heat, the sweat, the fogged-up glasses, it was impossible. It was called a cowl. It was my worst nightmare. You can’t do anything.”

Captain America: Brave New World is set to hit the theaters this Valentine's Day, but it won't show Anthony Mackie in the same outfit he wore during The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He is still donning the tinted goggles but there is no half-helmet that he previously sported in the Disney+ series.

There is a strong reason for this cowl-less look. Mackie, who previously wore the half-helmet, faced trouble during the shoot. He called it his "worst nightmare" since it fogged up his glasses in the middle of the heat. Now, in the new Captain America movie, he wears a cowl-less pair of goggles that likely offer him more comfort.

With Captain America: Brave New World, Mackie's Sam Wilson is up for a herculean task as he is facing Harrison Ford's Red Hulk upfront. The story will not follow him finding himself as Captain America, as explained by director Julius Onah during his Vanity Fair interview:

“That question has been resolved. Sam is our Captain America now. He’s our hero.”

Still, Sam Wilson has to prove himself in the new film, which can shape the direction of the MCU going forward. There is a lot at stake for the studio since it is the first film Anthony Mackie is leading in this role. Hopefully, he will make the Marvel fans excited enough for the future of the franchise.
