The Monkey gets seal of approval from author Stephen King himself

Spooky horror films seem to be all the rage right now in cinema and Stephen King's The Monkey's film adaptation is here to turn up the heat on the genre of horror.

Based on King's short story published in 1985, the film will revolve around a cursed artifact- a toy monkey with cymbals who brings about destruction every time it's played. The Monkey is widely known as a fan-favorite work from the author, and the trailer for the film adaptation promises to be just as eerie and unsettling.

The film has been a highly anticipated upcoming film and in fact, King himself has praised The Monkey and has given it his seal of approval as he went on to Threads to share his thoughts on the film on January 26, 2025. He wrote:

“You’ve never seen anything like THE MONKEY. It’s batsh*t insane. As someone who has indulged in batsh*ttery from time to time, I say that with admiration.”

Stephen King has been a notable figure in the genre of horror and has been a big inspiration behind many of Hollywood's finest horror films. The Monkey is set to star Theo James as a pair of twins, Hal and Bill, in the lead role. Elijah Wood, Sarah Levy, Tatiana Maslany, Rohan Campbell, Christian Convery, and Colin O’Brien will join the actor for this venture.

The story revolves around Hal and Bill and their experience with a certain toy monkey that played cymbals, an artifact that belonged to their father. What is meant to be a sweet part of their childhood soon becomes something sinister and dreadful in their lives as they realize the toy is cursed and is responsible for inviting evil to those around it. The twins witness death and destruction, and all clues point to the co-incidence of the monkey being a part of all these unfortunate events.

Upon adulthood, they return to their childhood home, only to find themselves being welcomed back by the monkey. The rest of the film revolves around the twins as they continue to try and escape the curse of the toy monkey and stop it from bringing in more calamities.

The Monkey is set to hit theaters on February 21, 2025.
