Julia Garner is all set to star as the shiny, silver Silver Surfer for Marvel's Fantastic Four: First Steps and the actress is giving fans all the details about her new character, that will be one of the biggest highlights of the new film. Making her debut in Marvel, Garner has expressed her excitement for the role and the process that went behind bringing the iconic character to life.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on April 24, 2025, Garner opened up on Silver Surfer's look and how she feels donning the magnificent cosmic persona. As fans have already seen, the sleek, chrome design of the Surfer isn't just visually striking but also deeply symbolic of the character’s detachment from earthly emotion.
Talking about how she felt seeing herself as the iconic hero, she said:
"I wasn't super surprised, because Matt showed me a mockup of it. I just thought it was so cool. It kind of oddly looked like ... well, I don't want to say fashion-y, but you could totally see it on, I felt like, a runway, which is something I always notice the best. The costume has to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye, especially with Marvel. People love that. At the end of the day, it is a comic book. I'm excited to see it — I really haven't seen anything besides the trailer and some mockup scenes, so it's going to be interesting."
She further added on how she prepared herself for the role as she said:
"When I got presented with this opportunity, I was like, 'Wait, what? Me?' Yeah, I was in disbelief, almost because it was so cool. I knew who the Silver Surfer was, and I got to know the Silver Surfer more when I signed on to the project. I really dived in. I read a lot of the Fantastic Four and Silver Surfer comics before starting the project, and I knew that this Fantastic Four was going to be told in a very different way than even the other movies."
