Deadpool was right about being the Marvel Jesus in Deadpool & Wolverine, as he did revive the enthusiasm and excitement among superhero enthusiasts. The acclaimed franchise had a hard time entertaining fans after the original Avengers died, and films like The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania didn't perform well.

However, with Shawn Levy associated with Deadpool & Wolverine featuring the two most iconic X-Men characters, the film was expected to become a big hit. The film follows Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool teaming up with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine to save the multiverse from an existential threat.

The films had notable cameos like Chris Evans reprising his role as Johnny Storm, a.k.a. the Human Torch from the 2005 film Fantastic Four, the appearance of Dafne Keen as Laura, and more. But what if we tell you that the best Marvel cameo was cut, and fans never go to see it?

Surprisingly, a Weapon X Wolverine cameo was originally planned for Deadpool & Wolverine but was ultimately eliminated from the final version of the film. Continue reading to explore more about the cameo and the storyline of the Weapon X Wolverine variant.

A Weapon X Wolverine cameo almost made it to Deadpool & Wolverine

Marvel fans almost got the chance to witness Wolverine in his iconic Weapon X look in Deadpool & Wolverine, but the cameo was cut in the end. This version is inspired by the Weapon X storyline from the comics, and for the film, the concept was crafted by concept artist Phil Saunders.

The artist shared his design with fans on Instagram, and part of its caption reads:

"I loved the subtle asymmetry of the helmet and the combination of aggression and vulnerability in BWS’s composition. Hope my homage does it the faintest bit of justice."

This eliminated cameo was intended to be part of a montage sequence where Deadpool travels through the Multiverse and encounters multiple variants of himself. Since the comic introduced different versions of the character, it would have been nothing less than a virtual treat for Marvel enthusiasts.

In the storyline, Weapon X is the name of a secret military program through which people are kidnapped and experimented to become living weapons. Similarly, Wolverine was also experimented on when scientists bonded adamantium to his skeleton and claws.

This way, Wolverine becomes incredibly strong but loses his memory. He then accepts orders without question. However, he was able to break free from Weapon X and began to piece together who he really is.

However, other variants, including Crucified Wolverine, Logan, Patch, and a few more, made it to the film. Following Phil Saunders' post, fans praised the art for being a comic-accurate variant.
