The Bear star Jeremy Allen White lands a new role in Netflix’s Enigma Variations

Jeremy Allen White is set to star in Enigma Variations, Netflix's upcoming drama series based on an André Aciman novel.

This is not the first time André Aciman's work has been adapted to the silver screen. His 2007 novel - Call Me By Your Name eventually became an Oscar-winning film helmed by Challengers and Queer director Luca Guadagnino. The acclaimed film earned actor Timothée Chalamet his first Oscar nomination and veteran screenwriter James Ivory his first Oscar for an adapted screenplay.

Now, Aciman's 2017 novel, Enigma Variations, is up for adaptation on Netflix. According to the reports, The Bear star Jeremy Allen White is set to star in this new project and will also serve as an executive producer on this bisexual romance drama series that is currently in development.

Enigma Variations: Jeremy Allen White is all set for a main role in Netflix's new bisexual romance drama

Jeremy Allen White will reportedly star in a new drama series, Enigma Variations, being developed by Netflix. It will be adapted from André Aciman's 2017 novel of the same name.

The Bear star will also be an executive producer on this Netflix project along with Amanda Kate Shuman (The Wheel of Time), who will serve as the showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Oliver Hermanus (Living) will join as the show's director and executive producer along with author Andre Aciman, who will also executive produce this project, according to Variety.

Amanda Kate Shuman is known for her work in James Spader-led The Blacklist, besides Prime Video's The Wheel of Time. Previously, she has worked on television projects like Berlin Station and Chuck.

Oliver Hermanus is an acclaimed South African director known for his films like Beauty (2011), The Endless River (2015), Moffie (2019), and Shirley Adams (2009). His 2022 film Living earned two Oscar nods, one for veteran actor Bill Nighy and the other for Nobel Prize-winning Kazuo Ishiguro for his screen adaptation of Akira Kurosawa's Ikiru (1952).

Hermanus's upcoming film is a period romance drama starring Paul Mescal (Normal People, Aftersun) and Josh O'Connor (Challengers, La Chimera) based on Ben Shattuck's story.

Jeremy Allen White received widespread recognition as troubled chef Carmy from Hulu's The Bear. This performance has earned him three Golden Globes and two Emmys. He is also known for playing Lip Gallagher in Showtime's Shameless and for his role as wrestler Kerry Von Erich in Sean Durkin's The Iron Claw.

Besides Enigma Variations, Allen White will also star in the upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic as the iconic American singer.
