As per the latest report, Warner Bros. has pushed back the release date of The Batman: Part II from 2026 to October 1, 2027. DCU Chief has reportedly answered a query on his Threads profile saying that this delay is necessary for a smooth transition from pre- to post-production.
He further said that showrunner Matt Reeves is yet to submit a complete script for the DC sequel. Moreover, a five-year hiatus between the first and the second part has led to a lot of anticipation among fans. In the first film, The Batman, Robert Pattinson played the titular character alongside co-stars Zoë Kravitz, Colin Farrell, Paul Dano, John Turturro, and Jeffrey Wright.
The Batman 2 gets delayed due to an incomplete script
One user on Threads posted a query following up on The Hollywood Reporter's update on The Batman: Part II's delay:
"Hello @jamesgunn. Can you please confirm whether this is true or add some more context (if possible)?"
To this question, chief James Gunn has responded, clarifying the production delays caused by an incomplete script. He reportedly said:
"Sure. Yes, it is true. The only reason for the delay is there isn’t a full script (those of you who follow me here probably know that already). Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films. "
The Batman: Part II reportedly up for a title change
As per reports, The Batman: Part II title might be changed with a new added tagline. It can be kept as simple as The Batman: Part II, but all of it is still being kept under wraps. Moreover, there have been speculations among fans that the production delay and possible title change are due to the story of The Batman moving to the DCU.
The Batman's latest spin-off series, The Penguin, has garnered a lot of fan attention and has been quite a success in terms of ratings. It has popularized the character in the Batverse, and lead star Colin Farrell has been reportedly able to do justice to the role.
The Batman: Part II will pick up where the story was left in the first installment—Riddler confined to Arkham Prison as Gotham is trying to recover from a devastating induced flood. Director Reeves has said in an interview with Digital Spy:
"There's a lot of unrest, and there's a lot of clamoring because of the revelations of what we find out at the end of the movie. As we enter into the next movie, there’s a lot more gray. There are more people at odds and more division in the city. It’s a lot more like our world is now; there’s a lot of turmoil because people are in their camps and not communicating."
