"Christian Wolff applies his brilliant mind and illegal methods to reconstruct the unsolved puzzle of a Treasury chief's murder."
The sequel did not feature Dana Cummings, who was played by Anna Kendrick in the first 2016 film. Recently, director Gavin O'Connor dropped a hint that she might feature in the third installment, which is in development. So let's find out what he said.
The Accountant 2 director hints at Anna Kendrick's presence in sequel
Gavin O’Connor, the director of The Accountant and The Accountant 2, sat for an interview with Ben Affleck, where he expressed his interest in bringing back Anna Kendrick's Dana Cummings in the third installment. He said,
“One thing we’ve talked about is the idea of bringing Anna Kendrick back. Maybe Christian can finally get the love that he deserves.”
Affleck said that he hopes she likes them. In response, the director said that he has been texting Anna.
“Actually, Ben, she and I have been texting. She said she’s a hundred percent in if we want.”
In the first film, Cummings worked as an accountant in the Living Robotics company. She eventually figures out that there are certain irregularities in the financial books. Looking at the director's comments, it appears that her romance with Christian Wolff might be a major plot line of the third film.
In an earlier THR interview, O’Connor spoke about Kendrick's absence from The Accountant 2 and said that the plot was centered on these two brothers. He said,
“People have asked about Anna Kendrick’s [absence], but she was never intended to be in the second movie. It was always about bringing the brothers together so they can try to fix things with each other. That’s really what we wanted to explore. These are two guys that are searching for human connection and love, which we can all relate to. So I love the idea of exploring stories of brothers.”
He has said that these films were intended to be a trilogy. The director also said that the viewers won't have to wait for another nine years for a third installment.
