U.S. Senate candidate Sam Parker sparked controversy after calling for the deportation of Selena Gomez, Emilia Perez actress, following her tearful video expressing empathy for undocumented immigrants being deported from America. While reacting to Selena's emotional post, Parker said,
"Selena Gomez picked illegals over America b/c she's the 3rd gen descendant of Mexican illegals who received citizenship in the '87 Amnesty. Maybe Selena should be deported, too?"
He then went on to tweet:
"Deport Selena Gomez."
After Parker's post went viral Gomez herself took to her stories to respond, saying, "Oh Mr. Parker, Mr. Parker. Thanks for the laugh and the threat". Following this, netizens took to Pop Base's X post to showcase disapproval of Parker's comments.

Selena, in a now-deleted video on Tuesday, shed tears on Instagram while addressing the deportation by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) saying;
"I just want to say that I'm so sorry. All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don't understand. I wish I could do something, but I can't. I'll try everything, I promise."
Gomez is of Mexican-Italian descent, with her father, Ricardo Joel Gomez, being from Mexico, and her mother, Mandy Teefey, having Italian roots. Her paternal grandparents emigrated to Texas from Monterrey in the 1970s.
Gomez has been vocal about her connection to her Mexican heritage. In an op-ed for TIME Magazine in October 2019, the singer-actress revealed that her aunt was the first in their family to cross the border in the back of a truck in the 1970s, followed by her grandparents.
In the same year, Gomez executive-produced the Netflix docuseries Living Undocumented, which showcased the lives of undocumented families in the U.S. The series aimed to highlight the experiences of immigrants.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that approximately 4,000 Mexicans had been deported from the U.S.A., including people of all ages, on a civilian aircraft.
Trump's administration, during his second term, also initiated deportations to other countries, including Brazil and Colombia. His deportation plan is a part of his "America First" foreign policy.
