Eric Andre has some regrets! Because the actor just turned down an Oscar-winning role.
Recently, Andre appeared on Andrew Santino's podcast Whiskey Ginger, where the actor confessed that he was offered the same role played by Kieran Culkin in the movie A Real Pain by director Jesse Eisenberg. Culkin won an Academy Award for the role in the best supporting actor category.
"Two years ago, Jesse Eisenberg called me...offered me the ['A Real Pain'] role that Kieran Culkin got the Oscar for. I was like, 'That seems really miserable and not in my lane.' I read the script. I was like, 'To go to Poland for six weeks and shoot a movie where we're just babbling about the Holocaust, seems like a bummer.'"
Culkin won the Oscar through his breakthrough performance in the film after beating some strong contenders such as Guy Pearce (The Brutalist), Jeremy Strong (The Apprentice), and Edward Norton (A Complete Unknown).
Andre expressed his regret for missing a chance of a lifetime.
"I was like, 'Appreciate the offer. I'm sure it's gonna be great. I don't think that's what I'm looking for right now,'" said André. "The motherf---er won an Oscar for the role I passed up. It's not like I get offered roles constantly. I'm not f---ing Leonardo [DiCaprio]."
As per Newsweek, the official logline of A Real Pain reads:
"Following the death of their beloved, Holocaust-survivor grandmother, two estranged cousins embark on a trip to Poland to reconnect with their heritage, only to find their relationship and their understanding of family history put to the test."
While Culkin has been acting since the beginning of the 90s alongside his brother, the actor rose to fame when he played the role of Roman Roy in the HBO series Succession. His next project is voicing for the role of Squealer in the movie Animal Farm.
