The retired basketball champion, Dwyane Wade, is currently in the news and is a hot topic of discussion as he received backlash from the people regarding the look of his statue in Miami. The statue outside the Kaseya Center in Miami, which was unveiled in October 2024, was erected to honor the basketball champion. Interestingly, Wade is the first Miami Heat player to receive a statue outside the Kaseya Center.

The three-time NBA champion, Wade, was confident enough not to care about all the critical comments regarding his statue. On the contrary, he was quite laid back about the matter and approached it sportingly and stated that none of the negative comments and opinions mattered to him.

The 43-year-old recently appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where he opened up about the recent chatter surrounding his statue. People were mainly critical about the statue's design, specifically the face. According to the people who were not satisfied with how the statue turned out, they claimed that the statue's face did not resemble Wade's face. This was their whole point.

However, while talking to Jimmy Fallon about how some people felt about his statue, Wade confidently said:

" That’s what they do, they talk."

Then he further added:

"But people ain’t got a statue, Jimmy. I only listen to people that have statues. If you don’t have a statue…"

During his conversation with Jimmy Fallon, Wade, in a very humorous way called his statue "Statuesque Wade". The former basketball champion, who is proud of his statue, shared how important it is to him and his family, and added:

"It’s so surreal. I’m a kid from the inner city of Chicago, and to be able to end my career and walk away with a statue outside the arena—it means everything. I put everything I had into the game of basketball, on and off the court, and for the Miami Heat to honor me in that way, it’s just special."

With an impressive 16-season career, Dwyane Wade entered his retirement in 2019. After retiring from basketball, Wade kept himself busy by taking up a bunch of projects that include owning sports teams, running an entertainment production company, writing books, and also pursuing TV commentary.

The Hall of Famer had his fair share of rough times, as he was diagnosed with kidney cancer and had to undergo a serious surgery in 2023. To get rid of the cancer, 40% of his right kidney had to be removed. However, he is out of danger now and is completely healthy.
