Justin Bieber has unfollowed his long-term ex-music manager, Scooter Braun on Instagram as of January 4, 2025. The two had been working together ever since Braun discovered Justin on YouTube and got him into the music industry in 2008.
In August 2023, Billboard reported that Justin's contract with Braun lasted for four more years before Braun announced his retirement from music management in June 2024. Braun is still the CEO of HYBE America - the North American iteration of South Korean entertainment company HYBE).
After Bieber's fans noticed him unfollowing Braun, they took to X to express their shock and surprise.
"Bro you guys really go on someone's page just to see if they follow someone or not that's crazy" - another user noted
"Scooter is the devil" - a user mentioned
"Considering Scooter made his whole career off Justin at 15, watching them unfollow each other feels like watching your parents get divorced." - another user commented
"Imagine fumbling having Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber as some of your clients… smh…" - a fan noted
In August 2023, there were insider claims that despite the two working together for more than a decade, Justin was looking for new management after quietly splitting from Braun. Along with Justin, Braun's other clients including Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, Carly Rae Jepsen, J Balvin, and Idina Menzel had cut ties as well.
As per insiders, Braun was losing clients since he was "doing (everything) behind the scenes for all his clients" leading to not making his long-term clients a priority.
When did Scooter Braun and Justin Bieber stop working together?
In June 2024 Braun officially announced his retirement from music management. However, one day before his retirement announcement, a representative for Justin Bieber in a statement to PEOPLE revealed that the two were no longer working together,
"Scooter Braun and SB Projects are not involved in Justin's current business or management and will not be involved moving forward. Justin is excited about the projects he is currently working on and is focused on what's in front of him."
In his announcement for retirement, Braun who now works as the sole CEO of HYBE America said,
"Over the past two years, I have been heading towards this destination, but it wasn't until last summer that this new chapter became a reality. One of my biggest clients and friends told me that they wanted to spread their wings and go in a new direction. We had been through so much together over the last decade, but instead of being hurt, I saw it as a sign."
In his statement, Braun also mentioned that Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande were both teenagers when he began working with them. He noted that "to see them both come up to be the legends they are today will forever be one of my greatest honors", Braun said that he will "continue to root for them with the same passion" that he did "at each of their humble beginnings."
