Sabrina Carpenter and fellow pop star Christina Aguilera joined forces to celebrate the latter's 25th anniversary of her debut album. The two delivered a live performance and tribute as they shared the stage in a Spotify collaboration, performing Aguilera's massive hit, What A Girl Wants.

Sabrina Carpenter, a longtime fan of Aguilera, expressed her joy at being able to perform on stage with her idol. She said,

"That was the most inspiring thing for me ever to see as a young girl that wanted to sing but just didn’t think I could do it at that age.”

Sabrina Carpenter says Christina Aguilera is the reason she got into music

During the 26-minute segment, Aguilera belted out some of her hit tracks alongside guests like MGK, a live band, and some backup singers.

She also met up with the man who got her into the industry, Ron Fair, Senior VP of A&R at RCA Records. Then, she brought out the Espresso singer for a duet, and they sat on a couch to deliver their renditions, closing out the performance with their harmonizing.

After the performance, Sabrina Carpenter reflected on her experience, per People, saying,

"I think the first time I ever heard your voice was [when] my mom played me a video of you singing at eight years old, ‘A Sunday Kind of Love’."

She also explained that Aguilera was the reason she got into singing. She took one look at Aguilera singing Etta James' A Sunday Kind of Love, and was instantly smitten.

“You were a child! I was like, ‘How is that coming out of that body?’ It was the main reason I started singing and wanted to become a singer.”

While the veteran singer wore a gold ensemble with metallic stilettos, the Please Please Please singer was clad in an all-black, deep-cut outfit with minimalistic jewelry that brought it all together.

Both of them had their blonde tresses down as they sang their hearts out into the mics, harmonizing and balancing each other out with their vocal prowess.

Earlier this week, the two took to Instagram to post a promotional video, wherein Sabrina Carpenter could be seen lip-syncing to a Kylie Jenner audio. "I'm obsessed with my mom," she says, then pans the camera to Aguilera. The two were sitting on the same couch where they finished the segment.
