According to reports by Daily Mail, Taylor Swift is devastated as a judge rules against her former close friend, Jaime King, in a custody battle with ex-husband, filmmaker Kyle Newman. Newman is granted sole physical custody of their two children, James Knight (11) and Leo Thames (9), by the court.
The decision was made in the midst of claims that King abused drugs and neglected to finish court-mandated treatment plans. Taylor Swift is still dedicated to her duty as Leo's godmother, sending presents and encouragement from a distance even though she and King no longer communicate regularly.
When King lost custody of her two kids, James Knight (11) and Leo Thames (9), to her ex-husband, filmmaker Kyle Newman, her personal problems took a drastic turn. A Los Angeles judge cited King's alleged substance abuse and awarded Newman sole physical custody. Newman gets the last word on essential choices, even though both parents are still legally entitled to custody.
King was charged in Newman's filings with putting their kids' safety in jeopardy by driving while under the influence and leaving Leo alone. The court decided in favor of Newman, raising questions about her capacity to give her boys a stable home, despite King's denials of these allegations and her insistence that she had passed all drug tests.
A judge decided that King cannot see her boys unsupervised until she had finished a six-month drug and alcohol treatment program. Until then, King's visitation is strictly restricted to three times per week as a part of the order and is supervised by authorized personnel, including family members from both sides.
Taylor Swift and Jaime King's friendship
The two became close friends immediately after meeting at a Golden Globes party in 2014. In the mid-2010s, Taylor Swift and Jaime King were inseparable and were regularly spotted together on social media and at events.
Taylor Swift and Jaime King would often share each other's content on social media. When Taylor Swift was asked to become Leo Thames' godmother in 2015, King praised the singer's compassion and thoughtfulness, further cementing their connection.
King told PEOPLE,
"She's going to be, like, the best godmother in the whole world. The best."
Although their relationship has weakened over time, sources now affirm that they don't communicate much. Despite this, a source informed The U.S. Sun that "there is still love" between them.
Swift still sends Leo gifts on important occasions despite their distance, and according to sources, she would "be there in a heartbeat" if her godson needed her.
"She has always taken her godmother role and duties very seriously and is the most thoughtful and caring person Jaime could have asked to be there for Leo,"
the source said.
On Leo's first birthday, Taylor Swift also donated to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles as a token of appreciation to the medical staff who helped save his life.
Jaime King moves out of her rental home in LA
According to The Sun, following her custody dispute with her ex-husband Kyle Newman, King is said to have moved out of her $10,000-per-month rented house in the Hollywood Hills. In photographs taken, it could be seen that several personal belongings, such as a wooden daybed, a couch, and a small trampoline, were seen being taken out of the house during the move.
Due to growing financial difficulties, the actress, who had occupied the four-bedroom, three-bathroom home since April 2023, had to vacate earlier this month.
According to people close to her, King's legal struggles and unsuccessful film endeavors had depleted her resources, forcing her to downsize. She has now shifted into a smaller house.
Within a week of being advertised, the house was relisted and rented out for $11,900 a month. After completing her divorce from Newman in 2023, King had previously sold her Beverly Hills home for $2 million.
