The root cause of the legal battle between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni started with the filming of the movie It Ends With Us. The film is an adaptation of Colleen Hoover's book, which was published in 2016. The lawsuit battle between Lively and Baldoni began after the release of their movie, when Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni in December 2024. It Ends With Us was released in August 2024.

Over the last few months, pieces of evidence were brought forward by both parties involved. The trial between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, including Wayfarer Studios et al., will begin next year in March. PEOPLE have reported that they received word from a source that longtime friends of Lively and her husband, Taylor Swift and Hugh Jackman, might be served with subpoenas.

According to the source:

"Anyone that had any knowledge of this situation will be subpoenaed, no matter of their celebrity status."

However, another contradicting source stated that the two individuals (Taylor Swift and Hugh Jackman) are not directly involved in the lawsuit, which means they are

"not privy to anything going on."

It also mentioned that the news/rumor about Swift and Jackman getting subpoenaed is

"smoke and mirrors and trying to distract from the allegations against Baldoni."

More details from the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni lawsuit battle

The date is yet to be set for the court appearance of the Lively v. Wayfarer Studios et al. case, but it is scheduled to happen in March 2026. Lively's lawsuit was based on the charges of "alleged s*xual harassment and a retaliatory smear campaign."

No direct statements have been received from the It Ends With Us actress, but this is what an insider source had to say:

"This wasn't a decision made on a whim — it was months in the making... She knew there would be backlash, and she prepared herself for how mentally and emotionally difficult it would be."

They also added that Blake has expressed that she does not have any regrets regarding suing Baldoni. They concluded by saying,

"She can't go through life knowing she didn't stand up to something she believed was wrong," the source explains.

Taylor Swift and Blake Lively's friendship through the legal fight

Taylor Swift and Blake Lively's relationship is going through a little bit of a rough patch because of the ongoing legal battle. However, there is nothing the two women cannot fix. Swift and Lively are longtime friends, and the Back to December singer is actually the godmother of Lively and Reynolds's four children.

After the recent mention of how Taylor was connected to the Lively vs. Baldoni case, Swift expressed that she was "really hurt." An insider elaborated:

"Blake knew she and Taylor would come back from this at some point and that their friendship wasn’t done for good... Taylor was really hurt by this situation, so she’s relieved they were able to recover from this and put it all behind them because it wasn’t something she took lightly," the source explained, clarifying where the two women are in their friendship today.

As the legal case between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively continues, the speculation about Taylor Swift and Hugh Jackman getting subpoenaed adds further drama to the situation. While some sources say that anyone who knows anything related to the situation will be called to court, others deny that the celebrities will be involved in the case in March 2026.
