President-elect Donald Trump surpassed Taylor Swift on X with close to 95 million followers, effectively becoming the 8th most-followed person in the world. Swift, on the other hand, also boasts 94.7 million followers, though the President exceeded her by a couple hundred.
As soon as the news broke out on X, users began weighing in. Here's how one user reacted:
"Swifties will be inconsolable. Well, the few that are over the age of 13 and know who Trump is anyway."
Scores online chimed in:
"As a Swiftie for Trump I can’t tell you how much my daughter and I cackled at this latest remix earlier," one user tweeted.
"It was just a matter of time," another claimed.
"I believe it also has much to do w/ many leaving X bc of Elon and moving accounts to Bkuesky. Taylor Swift had a large democratic following. Not sure about everyone else but I have lost thousands of followers in the last couple of weeks alone," someone else opined.
"She’s gonna make a sad song about it," a fourth person said in jest.
Several more commented with opinions, jokes, and cutthroat remarks:
"Taylor swift is history now," one user stated.
"Taylor Swift - Donald Trump Breakup Song Coming Soon," another joked.
"Trump with more followers than Swift? Looks like the MAGA guitar strummed a louder chord," someone else tweeted.
"As it should be!!!" yet another declared.
The comments were ostensibly filled with MAGA-supporting users, all of whom were rallying for President-elect Donald Trump.
X loses followers in the after math of Donald Trump's political comeback
In 2021, Donald Trump's account was suspended on X following the 2020 presidential election. However, he made a comeback this year, when he equipped the platform to campaign for this year's election. According to The Post Millenial, the Trump campaign delivered the following message regarding his use of X:
"President Trump will do everything he can to bring his unscripted message directly to the people, something the fake news media refuses to do. While Kamala Harris enjoys the luxury of hiding from the press, President Trump accepted Elon’s invitation to have an unfiltered conversation about his America First policies with voters and people around the world. The media can lie, but the numbers don’t: Americans are eager to hear from President Trump and his momentum is only growing as we get closer to November 5.”
As for the platform itself, as per many outlets, X has been steadily losing followers at an exponential rate in the aftermath of the 2024 presidential elections. While some attribute it to Elon Musk taking over in April 2022, others blame him for equipping the platform to push his political propaganda in favor of the President-elect. Notably, when the Canadian mogul acquired the platform, he vowed to keep it politically neutral.
As for Taylor Swift, ahead of the presidential elections, she took to Instagram in September to officially declare her support for Vice President Kamala Harris. She penned a lengthy statement in favor of the same, referring to Harris as a "gifted leader," a "warrior" and "steady-handed."
