Superman, starring David Corenswet, has been smashing records from the moment of its teaser release. The teaser trailer on DC's YouTube channel crossed 22.5 million views within the first 24 hours of its release. So, this new rendition of the DC tale seems to be on a great start.
David Corenswet will take over the baton as the caped superhuman from Henry Cavill, who starred in films like Man of Steel, and Zack Snyder's Justice League. Before this project, Corenswet starred in movies like Twisters, and his previous work in shows includes Lady in the Lake and We Own This City.
Gunn, who hopes to reboot the DC universe with this new movie, has broken an almost 20-year-old pattern in DC movies. Besides the Daily Planet newspaper office, the Luthercorp building, and the Stagg industries, the trailer also offers a glimpse of the Fortress of Solitude situated in the Arctic. The inclusion of Fortress is a major change in this franchise that was omitted in the last few DC movies.
Now, the Fortress is back with all its glory and looks as sleek as one would expect from the minds behind the project. If you are wondering why it is groundbreaking, let's dive right into it.
Superman: The Significance of Fortress of Solitude
The Fortress of Solitude is a major part of Superman's origin story. It was not present in any DC movie for almost two decades. The last time it was shown was 18 years ago in the Superman Returns (the 2006 film), which starred Brandon Routh in the titular role. The Fortress was also an important part of the movies, starring Christopher Reeve, which began in 1978. However, it was ignored, or left out from the other editions of the universe.
According to the comics, The Fortress of Solitude is a crucial part of this superhero's journey. It led him to learn about his heritage as a Kryptonian, and made him aware of his purpose on Earth.
What to expect from the new James Gunn film?
The upcoming James Gunn film about the Man of Steel brings back many special locations from this Superhero universe including the aforementioned Fortress of Solitude. It shows Gunn's attention to detail about the origins of this beloved superhero.
The teaser briefly shows the fortress after the visibly shaken Superman holds a broken droid in the snow. It also shows him wounded and lying in the snow. Besides that, no other detail has been announced just yet.
So, the Fortress appears to be a location that serves as a battleground during the movie's pivotal moments. Alas, we will have to wait till the movie's release to learn more.
Superman is scheduled to be released on July, 2025.
