Hollywood icon and Academy Award-winning filmmaker Steven Spielberg has offered a heartfelt tribute to visionary director David Lynch, and has also recalled his movies. Steven Spielberg (known for his notable work in timeless classics like Jurassic Park and Schindler's List) along with many celebrities including Kyle MacLachlan, Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, Nicholas Cage, Naomi Watts, and many others have mourned the death of the iconic filmmaker, and shared their earnest eulogy to the late David Lynch.
The legendary Oscar-nominated filmmaker David Lynch is hailed as one of the most prominent filmmakers in cinema history. His style of filmmaking is known for its surrealist quality that he created in his world, along with elements of horror and neo-noir, which left an impact on the viewer's mind. Some of his most celebrated works include The Elephant Man (1980), Dune (1984), Blue Velvet (1986), Mulholland Drive (2001), and Twin Peaks (1990-1991). David Lynch breathed his last on 15th January 2025, at the age of 78.

Steven Spielberg, who considers David Lynch as 'one of his heroes', mentions in his tribute by stating:
“I got to know David when he played John Ford in ‘The Fabelmans.’ Here was one of my heroes—David Lynch playing one of my heroes. It was surreal and seemed like a scene out of one of David’s own movies. The world is going to miss such an original and unique voice. His films have already stood the test of time and they always will.”
David Lynch starred in a cameo role in Steven Spielberg's drama film The Fabelmans (2022), essaying the role of John Ford, a person who is an influential figure in Sammy's life. Sammy is a character that is indirectly based on the earlier life of Steven Spielberg as a teenager. The Fabelmans was also the last appearance of David Lynch as an actor.
Steven Spielberg has expressed his love for David Lynch's films, and has mentioned some of his films, in his statement:
“I loved David’s films. ‘Blue Velvet,’ ‘Mulholland Drive’ and ‘Elephant Man’ defined him as a singular, visionary dreamer who directed films that felt handmade”
The legacy of David Lynch shall remain immortal for years to come by. Not only was he a celebrated filmmaker, but he was a multifaceted artist as he was also a prolific visual artist, actor, and musician. Such prominent artists like David Lynch are rare and treasured, and the world shall miss and mourn the iconic legend.
