Sad news for all fans of Star Wars': Angus MacInnes' family announced that the actor took his last breath on December 23, 2024. He was best known for playing the Gold Leader in Star Wars: A New Hope. The news was first shared on the social media platform Facebook.
He worked in over 30 films, where his other notable roles include Commander Hammerbeck in Enigma, Sergeant Whitman in Hellboy, and more. He last appeared in a documentary released in 2015 called Elstree 1976; it was about the making of Star Wars.
Fans give consolation to Angus ManInnes's family
His family released the news using his account only. The post reads,
"To all Angus’ fans around the world, with breaking hearts we write this:
Angus MacInnes, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and actor died on 23rd of December 2024. He left us peacefully, surrounded by his family and love."
Fans are disheartened after hearing the news of his demise and are remembering the roles he played other than Star Wars, as it can be seen on the internet.
One fan said,
"I thought it was so cool to see him again in Rogue One via archived footage."
Another fan remembers his role from Strange Brew. He wrote,
"Don't forget he was Jean LaRose in Strange Brew."
In the archived footage that came alongside Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, his recorded lines can be heard, of which the most famous line says,
"Keep it tight and watch out for those towers."
Angus appeared in one interview with The Telegraph, where he gave a glimpse into his interactions with George Lucas. This one time, when he was shooting for a scene, it became difficult for him to act as he was used to cues, and Lucas simply asked to showcase his skills. It was hilarious, and though he was in a panic, he accepted.
His other roles that he played over his long-spanning career include Rollerball (1975), Atlantic City (1980), The Sender (1982), Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988), The Krays (1990), Enigma (2001), The Jacket (2005), The Black Dahlia (2006), Captain Phillips (2013), and more.
Many don't know this, but Angus MacInnes wasn't just an actor but a restaurateur too. He owned one called 'Mamma's,' based in Scotland.
Goodbye, old friend; may the Force be with you.
