Star Trek producer and visionary screenwriter Roberto Orci passes away at 51

In heartbreaking news, Roberto Orci, the brilliant mind behind major Hollywood hits like Star Trek, has passed away, leaving an unforgettable legacy. Orci contributed by co-writing the 2009 Star Trek film and went on to executive produce it for a successful reboot.

Following the film's success, Orci returned for the sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), and co-wrote it with Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof while J.J. Abrams served as the writer. Orci's untimely death at 51 is a devastating loss for the film industry.

As reported by Variety, Roberto Orci died on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, due to complications arising from kidney illness. After moving to Los Angeles from Mexico, Orci established his career and often worked with his co-writer Alex Kurtzman.

Roberto Orci's demise comes as devastating news. Per TREKMOVIE.com, Orci once said:

"My late best wonderful uncle introduced me to this world. I would never do anything to hurt Trek. I will always care. For my Captain Robau."

Roberto Orci's fascination with the sci-fi franchise started in childhood when his uncle, Richard Robau, introduced him to Star Trek.

Marvel filmmaker Joe Russo took to X saying:

"My first boss in Hollywood said the script for STAR TREK was the best he’d ever read — and he wasn’t kidding. Roberto Orci was a generational screenwriting talent and his death at only 51 is a tragic loss because I’m sure there were more masterworks to come.
RIP to one of the greats."
