According to latest reports, a live-action adaptation of the popular video game, Split Fiction, has been greenlit and, per Variety, a bidding race is already on the go for Hazelight Studios' masterpiece creation. Although cast and crew details are still under the wraps, confirmed sources inform that a media giant is already trying to set up the creative team.

The first official announcement of the OG game came in 2024 at the time of the Game Awards. However, the latest news of a movie adaptation has hit social media, leaving just a two-week gap from the game's official release on March 6, 2025. Hazelight Studios founder Josef Fares was at the helm of the project, and video game fans now eagerly await further updates on who will direct the upcoming movie, Split Fiction.

A live-action adaptation of Split Fiction has been greenlit

As confirmed by Variety, Split Fiction will soon get a live-action adaptation and Game Developers Conference (GDC) held at San Francisco is the source of the news. This has already been mentioned by multiple reports. A bidding war is already raging, and Story Kitchen reportedly has a headstart.

Per Variety, the game Split Fiction has bagged quite some fame in terms of review as well as revenue (tallying up to the sale of 2 million copies during its first week of release). A major feature of the game is that multiplayers can engage with each other using split-screen mechanism, which reportedly offers a wholesome gaming experience. The pivotal characters of the game are Mio and Zoe, two writers (and strangers), whose realms are quite different.

Mio is a person who lays the foundation of his work on science fiction while Zoe is an author driven more by fantasy and love. Players get to choose either of the two characters (Zoe or Mio) as they plan to find a way to escape the fictional worlds of their own creation.

Although there is no official statement from representatives of the respective companies yet, it is being speculated that we will soon have an official cast list and a creative team for the upcoming live-action adaptation of Split Fiction. Earlier in 2022 there were rumors about another movie adaptation for a Hazelight creation — It Takes Two. However, it never made it to the big screens and studio founder Fares was also not able to shed any light on the matter.
