Spider-Man writer Dan Slott to now team up with DC for Superman Unlimited

Dan Slott is changing gears as the comic writer is set to join DC to write the brand new Superman Unlimited. The writer is mostly known for writing Spider-Man and has worked with Marvel for years. Fans are excited to see what Slott will bring to DC, having created the critically acclaimed Spider-Man for Marvel.

DC reported on the new addition by sharing details about the plot of Superman Unlimited as fans enthusiastically reacted to Slott's onboarding. The comic series will feature illustrations from Rafael Albuquerque. As for Slott, he shared his excitement to work with DC and how he has always wanted to write about Superman.

Talking to DC Comics, he said,

"He’s the first and the greatest superhero of all-time, and I’ve been waiting my whole life to tell stories about him. Not just because of all the amazing powers he has, but because of who he is inside. Rafael Albuquerque and I are going to take him—and you—to places you’ll want to escape to every month."

Slott also teased a bit about the project as he talked about the ideas surrounding the comic and said,

"Millions of surprising ideas for Superman, Lois, the supporting cast, classic rogues, and all-new friends and foes too. If you’ve never read a Superman book, a DC book, or any comic book before—or if you’ve been a Superman fan your entire life—you couldn’t ask for a better place to take the leap and go all in than Superman Unlimited #1.”

Set to release in May, the series is set to start as a Kryptonite-filled asteroid hits Earth and creates trouble. As Superman's biggest weakness comes at great quantity against him, it will be interesting to see how the hero will deal with it.

DC shared details on what Superman Unlimited will revolve around as they shared the official plot synopsis of the comic, which states,

"A massive extinction-level Kryptonite asteroid showers Superman’s greatest weakness down upon the earth, creating an arms race for the new most valuable resource on the planet: Green K. The greater availability of Kryptonite in the DC Universe changes the balance of power in the criminal empires of Metropolis and across the globe: Intergang, under new leadership, is on the rise, with practically all their foot soldiers carrying at least one clip of Kryptonite bullets on them."

It continues,

"The asteroid left massive Kryptonite deposits to be mined, and it houses unlimited horrors yet to be unpacked. To survive, Superman will need to forge new alliances, new tech and new tactics if he hopes to carry on his quest for truth, justice and a better tomorrow!"

Slott's move to DC has sparked curiosity among fans, eager to see how his writing style will translate to the iconic Superman. His experience in crafting complex and beloved superhero stories is sure to bring a fresh perspective to the Man of Steel.


Superman Unlimited will hit the stands this May 21. It will also include a 10-page prelude by Slott and Albuquerque.
