During an interview with an IGN correspondent, Sonic 3 co-writers Casey and Miller spoke about the great public demand for this new character. When asked about this new character setting up more Sonic films, they offered an insight into the progression of this franchise.

They noted that creative decisions of such kind are taken after a group discussion based on what the fans are most excited about, similar to Shadow (Keanu Revees' character) in Sonic 2 & 3.

Although Casey and Miller haven't shared any specific details, they hope that the audiences are happy with the creative direction they take going forward.
