Gospel artist Kirk Franklin publicly apologized for his attire and twerking onstage at a popular annual Christian concert in Jamaica after he was bashed by conservative Christians. Franklin sported a grey muscle shirt and white shorts during his performance.
In a YouTube video where he addresses the "moments that had people talking" in 2024, shared by Franklin on December 30, 2024, he mentioned that he wasn't aware the minister would find his attire "disrespectful",
"I am aware now that my choice of attire, which as a team we thought was going to be fine being outside in the weather, was going to be something that would not come across as disrespectful. I've spent most of my career dancing and moving around and jumping on stage that I didn't know that I would ever do anything that would ever offend anyone in any community, but it did. And because it did, I sincerely apologize."
While talking about the reason behind his apology, Kirk said that he never wants to "get to a place that I can't learn" and noted that he considers what he could do differently to make sure that he grows "as a man."
"It doesn't matter what my goal and intent is, if I'm louder than the message of Jesus, then I failed."
Christopher Levy says he "expected more" from Kirk Franklin
Jamaica Broilers Group President and CEO Christopher Levy, who calls himself "a follower of Christ" while speaking to The Christian Post in an earlier statement after Kirk's performance said that his company had "expected more" from the artist,
"When we engage an artist, it is with a degree of trust that the artist will be aware and sensitive to their audience. We are cognizant that each of us (is) working through our relationship with The Lord, and we prayerfully support his growth."
Kirk Franklin's Juneteenth concert performance where he danced with Kamala Harris was also disapproved by the Christian community, including, popular Christian YouTuber Gabe Poirot. Joe Biden and Harris hosted an early Juneteenth concert in commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States where they invited a long list of entertainers including Kirk Franklin. However, Gabe Poirot blasted Franklin for inviting Harris on stage to dance with him during his set. Poirot disapproved of Harris since she has been an advocate for "pro-choice".
Poirot questioned how Kirk Franklin could "include in the same sentences" where he praises Jesus Christ to bring up a woman on stage "who has committed her life to fighting for the murder of the innocent."
