During a recent interview with Hot Ones, pop star Lady Gaga revealed how she struggled in the music industry to get gigs in the early years of her career. The singer would book her own shows, and also pretend to be her own manager on calls:

"I made my own outfit... I sewed it myself. I look back at that time so fondly. My whole day was trying to get gigs. I would knock on door after door and say, 'Can I please play here?' Or I would call and pretend I was my manager."

Lady Gaga would also hype herself up by pretending to be someone else.

"I would tell people, 'She's so hot right now.' Sometimes I would do an accent. I would do anything to get booked."

Gaga went on to achieve fame in 2007 with her debut album The Fame with Interscope Records. She began playing the piano at age four when her mother took her to piano lessons and encouraged her to pursue music.

"I would definitely say that I was tested" — says Lady Gaga about wanting to walk away from music

After quizzing her on what led to the start of her career and her early industry days, Hot Ones host, Sean Evans, asked Gaga: "What's the closest you've ever come to walking away?" To this, the singer responded:

"That is an incredibly deep question to ask me in this panic mode. I missed the community that I had in New York, and that was really hard. There were definitely times where I felt like maybe I should walk away."

Lady Gaga comes from a upper-middle class family in New York, according to Wikipedia. She went to a prestigious school in New York and enrolled in New York's Tisch School of Arts before dropping out a year later to pursue music.

While opening up about the difficult times in her career, Gaga said that there were times when she wanted to walk away. She added:

"I know for sure that I never would. I would definitely say that I was tested and I always didn't give up. And I'm still doing it, so it must mean I want to do it."

Gaga is preparing to launch her highly anticipated seventh studio album Mayhem on March 7. The singles from the album including Disease, a duet with Bruno Mars and Die with a Smile have both been listed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
