Former First Lady Michelle Obama got candid about her fears she experienced while bringing up her two daughters. On Thursday, she made an appearance on the "Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce" podcast, where she discussed various aspects of her life, including how she raised her daughters and how they were constantly watched and followed by paparazzi. Talking about how she wanted her girls to experience more freedom, she said,

"I was so glad when we got out of the White House.”

In her conversation with host Kylie Kelce, Michelle Obama, who shares two daughters, Sasha and Malia, with her husband, Barack Obama, revealed the anxiety and worry she felt about her two daughters in the spotlight.

More about how Michelle Obama raised her children in the public eye

Michelle Obama revealed during the podcast that since both her daughters were in their teenage years while Obama was in office, she worried about them being feared in the media. However, she also wanted to maintain a healthy balance by allowing them to live like any other teenager.

"You start realizing that in the teen years because I wanted to give my girls enough rope to live and be normal teenagers, but I was also worrying about them turning up on Page Six because they were doing what normal kids would do without that many eyes on them."

She further added that she always wanted her children, now aged 26 and 23, to have the ability and independence to do everything on their own once they became adults.

“When we entered, I’m thinking, ‘How do I make sure that they’re normal and ready when this is all over? They have to get on a bus, make their own plane reservations, and live in an apartment, and have decent friends, and be sane in the world.'”

The former First Lady also added:

"We’d have to build a real community of trust around them because I didn’t want them sitting home on Saturday night not understanding what it was like to be out and have a life before they went to college.”

During the conversation, Obama further adds that her two daughters still deal with the paparazzi, but the eight years spent in the White House have prepared them to handle the situation better.

"They [Malia and Sasha] still are dealing with paparazzi and being who they are and trying to carve out their own identity, but they go a lot of practice in those years in the White House.”

She also addressed the question that is always on everybody's mind, explaining why she would never run for president.

"So when people ask me would I ever run? The answer is no. If you ask me that, then you have absolutely no idea the sacrifice that your kids make when your parents are in that role."

She further added:

"Not only am I not interested in politics in that way, but the thought of putting her daughters back into that spotlight when they are just now establishing themselves in their own lives and careers would be "unthinkable."

Michelle Obama has also launched her own podcast with her brother, Craig Robinson, titled "IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson," where they discuss their childhood, raising children, parenting, and family.
