A much-anticipated update on the sequel to Robert Pattinson's The Batman has just dropped, and fans are thrilled to know that their favorite caped hero will be back on screen soon!

Although the studio has kept most details under wraps, actor Andy Serkis, who played Alfred Pennyworth in the film, has shared with fans that the sequel is on its way, after experiencing numerous delays and pushbacks. The actor talked about having interacted with director Matt Reeves about the sequel.

According to Deadline, the film is rumored to come out sometime around 2027, and Serkis shared his excitement with fans for the project while he appeared at MegaCon.

"I know there's a huge appetite, and boy, am I as hungry for it as you all are... I talked to Matt recently because I was doing the press thing with him about The Penguin, I interviewed him... He told me the story of The Batman 2, and I'm so excited for it! [laughs]"

This is the first time there has been a solid update on The Batman 2, as multiple events have pushed back the film's release earlier. These include the Writer's Guild strike, the SAG-AFTRA strike, and the restructuring of Warner Bros. Discovery. Regardless, the new update has made fans more hopeful and everything it would introduce fans to.

What was The Batman about?

Robert Pattinson's The Batman was a fresher side of the Gotham hero, as Matt Reeves explored Bruce Wayne's younger years as a detective and how he uncovers family secrets.

The film was originally supposed to be made by Ben Affleck, who would write, direct, and act in the series. He dropped out in 2017 and Reeves took up the project. The director tried to whip up a newer story for Wayne as he lessened the character's links to the DCEU in the film.

The film primarily follows Wayne, as he navigates through the killings happening in Gotham City and the mastermind behind them, a serial killer named The Riddler. He soon learns of his own family's ties to the murderer and aims to protect the city from any more innocent murders.

The Batman saw immense success at the box office and was one of the highest-grossing films of that year. Apart from Pattinson, it starred Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman and Paul Dano as the Riddler. The critical success of the film prompted showrunners to announce a sequel.

Although fans have sat in anticipation for a long time, Serkis' update has just lifted things and reassured fans that the project is on its way.
