Disney's Snow White was finally released on screens on March 21, 2025. The film reimagines the 1937 animated Disney classic. This live-action film stars Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, Ansu Kabia, Andrew Burnap and many others.
The film has opened to mostly negative critical reviews, earning a rating of 2.1/10 at the IMDb and a rating of 44% at the Rotten Tomatoes as of this writing. Adding to that, Snow White has also proceeded to garner a B+ Score Cinema Score.
Commercially too, the movie is facing hardships. It has earned upto $43 million in the domestic box office in the opening weekend, when it was anticipated to make upto $100 million.

Disney's Snow White, since its release, has earned $43 Million domestically at its beginning. It was anticipated that the movie could make a collection of $100 million at the box office.
In the international market, the film has garnered upto a collection of $44.3 Million as per the reports at Box Office Mojo. Thus, it has managed to earn upto a sum of $87.3 Million in total.
According to Variety, the movie was aiming to collect $45-$50 million collection domestically in the first week. The film did not also reach the expectation mark of earning $50 million in the first week in the global market either.
As opposed to the other Disney Princess live action films in the recent years, such as Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and also Maleficent, Snow White had a much weaker opening, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie was made with a whopping budget of $200+ million, so it is imperative for the film to perform welll at the box office to recover its budget.
As per reports from Variety, Paul Dergarabedian shares his thoughts about the remake's box office collections. The veteran Comscore analyst says:
"This is a situation that is never ideal."
The statement continues:
“In the case of ‘Snow White,’ kids and families likely just wanted to see a PG film and [were] perhaps unaware of the controversies.”
The reasons for the poor box office collections could be manifold. Ever since the news of the film's release took place, it has been at the foreground of controversies. It might have contributed to its commercial performance.
The controversies include the audiences' polarised response to Rachel Zegler's casting as Snow White and also her comments about the classic film. People were also discussing about the portrayal of the dwarves in the film.
Along with these, the differences between the old animated classic and the new live-action remake was also widely discussed amongst audience. The lead actors Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot's opposing political positions regarding the Israel- Palestine conflict also drew attention.
