Ryan Coogler's Sinners opened in theaters across the world this weekend, and the fans are finally rewarded with his mystical genre-fluid film rooted in the dark chapters of history. They are excited to see the Black Panther director flexing his creative muscles with his frequent collaborator, Michael B. Jordan. Their excitement was raised further when Jordan appeared during an opening weekend screening at the BFI IMAX. He greeted them by saying,

"You're about to see something special. This is 70 mm. We shot it for this format and it's in IMAX. It's a labor of love. I appreciate everybody for coming out tonight on the opening weekend."

Then, he joined the audience members to share his excitement for the presence of Wunmi Mosaku, the British actress, who plays one of the central roles in Sinners. The audience gave her a round of applause. She expressed how excited to see it all come to life.

"This is a dream come true, this project. Ryan has poured his heart and soul and Michael is just phenomenal. It's just been a dream from beginning to end. So, thank you so much for supporting [the film by showing up in the theaters]."

Then, Mosaku directs the conversation to Ludwig Göransson, who has composed the music. Jordan praises his contribution by saying,

"This is our wonderful composer...So, all the music you're going to listen to today is his brainchild."

Göransson then redirected the conversation to experiencing its audio-visual experience in IMAX, especially the one available at the British Film Institute.

"Experiencing it in this IMAX right here and the sound we got here in the theater...the way we were able to play around with the surround [sound] and the immersive experience. You guys are really in for a treat. And writing music for Michael, Wunmi, these beautiful faces on a huge screen has been such an incredible experience."

Ludwig Göransson was earlier present during a special preview screening for Sinners on the same screen on April 15, 2025. At the time, he was joined by director Ryan Coogler, who addressed the audience and spoke about the uplifting nature of his film.

"I wanted to make a film in the spirit of giving back to the audience. Young folks have come up in recent times, disconnected—coming out of the pandemic and the strikes. So, we wanted to make something big that felt like something new but felt like something old."

If you're wondering what makes the BFI IMAX screening so special, here's a video of the Sinners director himself explaining the details. He goes into specifics of aspect ratios, film formats, and how the viewer's experience can be affected by these creative choices. Here's the video:
