Kate Hudson has reflected on her choice to turn down a role in The Devil Wears Prada.

The 2006 comedy-drama film, based on Lauren Weisberger's same-name novel, follows a young, aspiring fashion journalist trying to make a name for herself in New York. Meryl Streep played the role of a highly influential magazine editor, Miranda Priestly, while Anne Hathaway was her wide-eyed assistant, Andy Sachs.

Kate Hudson was considered for Hathaway's iconic role. However, she did not accept it at the time. During a recent interview on Capital FM, Hudson expressed regret at having turned down the part:

“That was a bad call. And it was like a timing thing. It was one of those things where I couldn’t do it, and I should’ve made it happen, and I didn’t.”

Hudson further added:

“That was one where when I saw it I was like, ugh. But again, everything happens for a reason. There’s a reason for that. That was a real like, ‘I should’ve made that work.'"

The Devil Wears Prada is an iconic Hollywood project that needs no introduction. It features one of the most iconic Meryl Streep performances, which won her a Golden Globe award. The film was also nominated for two Oscars, one for Streep's performance and the other for Patricia Field's costume design.

Set in the cut-throat fashion world, The Devil Wears Prada also starred Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway, and Stanley Tucci. However, before Hathaway was cast as Andy Sachs, Kate Hudson was considered for the role.

Around the time of its filming, Hudson was busy with a few other projects such as You, Me and Dupree (2006) and Fool's Gold (2008). She needed to make a difficult choice related to the David Frankel film.

She said on Capital FM:

“It’s funny, it’s waves of things that are happening and people shooting at different times. It’s not like you don’t do them because you don’t want to do them. It’s like, oh, you’re doing something else. And it just sucked, you know?”

The Devil Wears Prada will soon receive a sequel, penned by Aline Brosh McKenna. It is in the early development stages at Disney, according to Deadline.
