Katy Perry got support from Madonna early in her career. During an appearance on the Australian talk show The Project this week, artist Katy Perry opened up about getting love and support from Madonna early in her career.
"Madonna was really nice to me, well it took a minute because she was testing me and then she became super nice to me. She just does her Madonna thing. She would invite me to a party and we had to do a photoshoot together which was amazing. She's the greatest.
Madonna's first album came out before Katy was born. Since she has considerable experience as an artist, it is known that she helped Katy Perry with her career. As per Bustle, Katy Perry turned to Madonna's support while going through her divorce from Russel Brand. Since Madonna has gone through two divorces, she has provided valuable life lessons.
"Every female (artist) still needs to continue to say thank you to Madonna," says Katy Perry
While speaking on The Project, Katy Perry recalled the time Madonna shouted out her 2007 single Ur So G*y on a radio show and noted that it helped her gain popularity.
"She actually shouted out my song and that was really the beginning of my career. That's what started to break me."
Perry also noted that "every female (artist) still needs to continue to say thank you" to Madonna and credited Madonna for being able to make music at 43 since Madonna continues working on music at 66.
The two have stayed good friends over the years and have done a joint photoshoot together. They have even appeared on stage together, and Katy made a cameo in Madonna's 2015 song, Bi*** I'm Madonna.
Recently, Katy Perry was spotted enjoying a Madonna concert from a VIP area in Los Angeles in March 2024.
Perry recently released her newest album, 143, on September 20. However, it hasn't received the expected praise and has been called a "failed comeback" by her fans after her exit from American Idol. At the time, Perry informed her fans that she was leaving American Idol to focus on her music career.
Her new album also features some guest artists, including Savage on Gimme Gimme, Gorgeous featuring Trans Diva Kim Petras, electro-infused Artificial featuring Rapper J.I.D., and I'm His, He's Mine featuring rapper Doechii.
