Rappers Azealia Banks and Doechii, aka Jaylah Ji'mya Hickmon, had preciously dissed each other on various occasions and reportedly through tracks. However, on January 2, 2025, Banks took to her X and shared multiple posts, leading her to criticize Hickmon.

It began with her backlashing white girls with her harshly critical, targeting other artists with accusations of unprofessional behavior and personal jabs. She appeared to rant about insincere "girl power" narratives and questionable industry practices, expressing her frustrations in an explicit and confrontational tone.

As her posts gained traction, an X user asked if she would agree that Doechii was among the ‘hardest rappers.’ Azealia Banks replied negatively, criticizing her music and style. She implied that her success stemmed from societal biases rather than talent. Singing praise for rapper Asian Doll, Banks suggested:

“Honestly all this sympathy accolades she’s getting could have gone to ASIAN DOLL.. Asian Doll is dark skinned and gorgeous and her music is fire and Asian been hot for a MINUTE. The girls don’t wanna give her her 10’s cause they’re all jealous of her she’s f*cking FAB.”

In another post, Azealia Banks questioned the recognition of certain artists in hip-hop, expressing disbelief that Cupcakke and Asian Doll were overlooked in favor of Ice Spice and Doechii. She criticized Hickmon's music as unremarkable, describing it as uninspired and tailored for algorithm-driven playlists. She added:

“She does nothing for me. Someone at tde s*cked some d*ck for that Grammy nom because no one knows any of them songs lol. Plus I really f*ck with Flo Milli too. Plenty of fabulous dark skinned girls getting over looked for not being ugly enough to give sympathy support.”

Doechii called out Azealia Banks in 2024 for her comment

In 2024, Doechii initially approached Azealia Banks about contributing to a remix of her single Crazy. While Banks initially agreed, the collaboration stalled, and she later criticized the singer, her song, and her label, TDE, on social media.

Azealia Banks expressed confusion about TDE's direction and even claimed not to know who Hickmon was. Despite the negativity, Doechii reportedly maintained a balanced response, expressing her excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate.

Another heated exchange happened when Hickmon shared photos from a photoshoot on Instagram, asking fans to suggest a name for her fandom. Azealia Banks responded sarcastically, suggesting "wannabe's."

The What It Is singer said she had previously ignored Banks' criticism out of respect but defended herself by highlighting her own achievements, urging Banks to stop targeting her.

When the nominees for the 67th annual Grammy Awards were announced, it turned out she received four nominations. She was nominated for Best New Artist alongside Benson Boone, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Shaboozey, and others.

Her mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal was nominated for Best Rap Album, Nissan Altima for Best Rap Performance, and Alter Ego (Kaytranada Remix) featuring JT and Kaytranada for Best Remixed Recording.
