The 50-year-old rapper behind hits like Lady Marmalade and Crush on You, Lil’ Kim, triggered a social media backlash on Tuesday, when she posted about the deadly wildfires raging through Los Angeles.

Talking about the fires on Instagram and X, the rapper prayed for people struggling; however, her commentary raised eyebrows.

Addressing the issue, she wrote:

"Been sending strong prayers up for LA and everyone affected by the fires."

She prayed for monsoon to strike LA to offer relief. Is that the best thing, though? Let us find out.

As netizens pointed out, monsoon might ease the fires, but it could also worsen the situation, creating widespread floods.

The post, which had restricted comments, also drew mixed responses online. Some fans called her statement misguided, with one commenter on X quipped:

"She may be still mad about Biggie"

Others followed with statements such as:

"Not you wishing another natural disaster on them" said another X user.
"Lmao she want them to get hit with the double whammy! Wipe them out" quipped another.
"Ending one natural disaster with another one is crazy" said one internet user.
"End fires with a MONSOON? learn the difference between rain and a monsoon" commented another.
"Idk about a monsoon , an end to the fire would’ve been just fine mama" remarked a X internet user.

A few people came forward to defend Lil’ Kim, with one netizen responding to the backlash by stating the actual definition of monsoon.

"Americans... A monsoon is series of winds that sometimes brings rainfall, it's not a natural disaster," they wrote.

With some 20,000 wildfires reported in Los Angeles alone, they have resulted in at least 25 deaths, destruction of 20,000 buildings, and millions facing immediate threat from fire.

A look into Lil’ Kim's legacy and her relationship with Biggie Smalls

Lil’ Kim’s emergence in the late 1990s with her debut album Hard Core solidified her as a hip-hop icon. Famed for her unapologetic sexuality, lyrical dexterity and bold aesthetic, Kim redefined how people viewed female rappers (Hiphophero).

Her career was tied to her personal relationship with The Notorious B.I.G., aka Biggie Smalls. Biggie found Kim in their Brooklyn neighborhood and promptly recruited her as a member of his crew, Junior M.A.F.I.A.

Their professional involvement thrived as Biggie assisted in kickstarting Lil’ Kim’s career under Bad Boy Records.

Kim and Biggie supposedly had a stormy romance, despite Biggie’s marriage to Faith Evans. Kim had, in the past, opened up about battles against domestic abuse and tough choices, such as choosing pregnancy.
