Shania Twain broke the internet after she made an appearance at the 2024 People's Choice Country Awards held at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on September 26.
The country-pop icon, who also served as the night's host, showed up clad in a custom Levi's denim two-piece. She had her 60s-inspired blonde tresses dangling over her shoulder and had gloves on to compliment the ensemble.
However, what caught fans' eyes the most was her virtually youthful appearance. Many began speculating that the singer, 59, had gone under the knife, given how dazzling she looked. However, others simply cheered the icon on and sang her praises. "She looks like a totally different person," one fan noted.
Several others echoed the sentiment, noting that they too felt like she looked unrecognisable.
"What the hell happened to her? Did she ask for the Denise Richards special?" one user questioned.
"She told her doc "turn me into Eva Mendes"," another joked.
"she turned her nose upward - she didn’t have to do that but it’s her choice - now she is unrecognizable," yet another pointed out.
Several others expressed their unhappiness with the singer's new looks. However, others commented on how good she looked.
"She looks great! imo obvi," one user noted.
"I'm sorry, but that is NOT Shania Twain," another declared.
"I did not know that Shania Twain was in a witness protection program," another joked.
Shania Twain says she wants to "be part of something amazing"
On the red carpet, Shania Twain was bursting with confidence, as seen in her conversation with E! News.
"Isn’t it crazy? I love it. I was involved with the sketches and the design and the silhouette and everything. To me, that’s the joy. It’s not about putting on something that’s amazing—it’s about being part of it.”
Apart from showing up, Twain was a nominee herself for the concert tour of 2024 with her Come On Over - All The Hits residency at PH Live at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas alongside other titans, including Tim McGraw, Zach Bryan, Jason Aldean, George Strait, Luke Combs, Kenny Chesney, and Morgan Wallen.
As if that wasn't enough, the host and nominee for the night also delivered a performance, taking to the stage in her original Man! I Feel Like a Woman! attire, an ode to the one she donned nearly three decades earlier. She had an all-black ensemble, with a corset top and a short skirt. Additionally, she had a cloak on and some thigh-high boots, as well as a top hat to pull the outfit together.
Shania Twain sat down for an interview with Billboard, which came out on September 23, to reflect on the decision-making process behind selecting a host. She also revealed that she would be looking up to Reba for her upcoming role, as she said,
"The hosts are chosen, I think quite carefully, making sure people are relating and the host has experience. Reba is one of my favorite hosts. She’s speaking from experience and I think that commands respect and attention. She’s funny and smart, and is loved by all, and it’s a compliment to be asked to do something like [hosting an awards show]. So Reba is a good example for me.”
She reflected on going back to Nashville, but in a completely different place in her career this time. She stated:
"It's a really full-circle experience for me. It takes me back to my own beginnings in Nashville and as a new recording artist there... And obviously the historic location is always appealing. I meet new artists, and I'm running into old friends, making new friends."
She also shared her excitement, saying,
"I'm here more as a fan than anything. It's the artists that the people want to hear and see, so to me, that is everything. I'll be smack dab in the middle of it all, so I'm super excited. I'm all access.''
Shania Twain has had a rough go at it health-wise, as she contracted Lyme Disease in 2003. In 2008, she had to undergo open-throat surgery to fix her fried vocal cords. Last year, she contracted COVID-19 and pneumonia, and had to be airlifted to a hospital.
