Seven Veils, starring Amanda Seyfried, is finally getting a theatrical release in the United States. It shows her in an intense role as a theater director working on an emotionally taxing creative assignment.
Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan, who helms the project as its writer and director, has collaborated with Seyfriend for the first time. The film is reportedly inspired by Egoyan's work in theater and was shot on the set of his Salome. According to Deadline, a major chunk of the film is shot during Egoyan's lauded theater production.
The Official IMDb synopsis for Seven Veils reads:
"An earnest theater director has the task of remounting her former mentor's most famous work, the opera Salome. Some disturbing memories from her past will allow her repressed trauma to color the present."
The film has previously been screened in the US in September 2024 during the Armenian Film Festival. Now, it will receive a wide theatrical release in the country on March 7, 2025.
Amanda Seyfried's Seven Veils is set to hit the US theaters
Seven Veils is set to be released in the United States on March 7, 2025. The film offers its star, Amanda Seyfriend, a meaty role of a theater director, who takes on the herculean task of bringing her mentor's work back to the stage. It makes her revisit her traumatizing past. So, bits of her life start seeping into her work.
Atom Egoyan, who directed this film, noted his opera production as an inspiration for his work. When asked about the connection between the two, he said:
“I’ve been involved with opera for a number of years, doing it parallel to my film work. I always wondered if there was a way to bring the two worlds together.”
Egoyan also shared his thoughts about the setting and themes for Seven Veils and why he chose them specifically:
“I wanted to explore how the themes of Salome could weave with the story of remounting this particular production. It’s not really an opera movie, it’s just using the world of the opera as a workplace like any workplace. We see the characters as they float in and out of scenes dealing with the preparation of the opera.”
Besides, the acclaimed director spoke about using the opera singers from Salome for Seyfriend's fictional theater production in the film. Here's what he said:
"Salome is a production I’ve done a number of times so when I knew that the Canadian Opera Company was remounting it, I thought this would be an ideal time to fuse the opera singers I knew they had booked with the script I had written,”
Seven Veils, which premiered in 2023 at the Toronto International Film Festival, was also a part of the Berlinale Special Gala 2024. Now, XYZ Films and Variance are bringing it to the US theaters in early 2025.
