Some fans might be thinking about a potential Winter Soldier cameo in Captain America: Brave New World and Sebastian Stan recently scoffed at it in one interview with Variety. Following the momentary mention of the Marvel film, it might become clear that Bucky Barnes is not involved.
The last time we saw Anthony Mackie alongside Sebastian Stan was during The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where they were against the Flag Smashers. Now Barnes will be a part of Thunderbolts*, and Falcon is the new Captain America, with Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez) by his side as the new Falcon in the film.
Sebastian Stan is not likely to appear in Captain America: Brave New World
During the interview, he was playful when asked if he was in Captain America: Brave New World. He said that,
You mean thunderbolts? I think that's been a little bit of a question. I did not; I did. Not I want you to channel Tom Holland right now. Sometimes he tells me stuff without meaning to tell me stuff.
But he did miss Anthony Mackie while he was filming Thunderbolts*. Regarding this, he says,
I'll say that although I miss Anthony Mackie like daily and it's something I don't like to admit, but you know Thunderbolts is really interesting because it was so fun, man.
Captain America: Brave New World will hit theaters on February 14, 2025, and will introduce Thaddeus Ross/Red Hulk in the MCU. It also presented Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America, who will be entirely different from what we are used to with the name.
Other than that, the film is said to feature Serpent Society, where there was speculation about Seth Rollin appearing in the film. He did film a few scenes but later said the film went through rewrites and reshoots, which likely removed his part from it.
On the other hand, Thunderbolts* will be released later on May 2, 2025, and apart from Stan, it stars Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Olga Kurylenko (Taskmaster), and more.
MCU is moving towards the next big thing with the upcoming Avengers films. Multiple projects are under development that are likely to tie into it. This includes The Fantastic 4: First Steps, Spider-Man 4, Ironheart, and more.
