Avengers ended with the 2019 superhero film Avengers: Endgame. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) continues to grow, with Doomsday and Secret Wars in the cards.
However, fans might be disappointed with this latest update regarding the casting of the forthcoming films. Elizabeth Olsen, who has portrayed the role of Scarlet Witch in the franchise and the television series WandaVision, has reportedly dropped the news.
She indirectly stated that her character will not be featured in the forthcoming Doomsday and Secret Wars.
Scarlet Witch won't feature in Avengers: Doomsday
Elizabeth Olsen recently gave an interview to The Hollywood Reporter, during which she was asked if she would be staying in London. This was in reference to the Russo brothers, who will be shooting Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars in the same city. She responded as follows:
"No, I’m back [in the US]. I just finished [Panic Carefully]. I’m moving on to filming a pilot for FX [called Seven Sisters]."
Olsen has portrayed the character of Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, in six films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It began with her uncredited cameo appearance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which came out in 2014. This was followed by Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame. Her last appearance in the series was with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where the character sacrifices herself to eliminate the antagonist.
Besides films, Olsen has also portrayed Scarlet Witch in Marvel's WandaVision. Like several other actors, including Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans, Olsen might have also pivoted her career away from the MCU. However, Marvel is notorious for keeping things secretive until they officially announce something.
Viewers were taken by surprise last year when Robert Downey Jr. was introduced as Victor von Doom, aka Doctor Doom. The film will be released on May 1, 2026, and it will start Phase Six of the MCU. It will also feature The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Secret Wars. The latter, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, will be released on May 7, 2027.
