According to the latest reports, Saw XI will not be moving forward, and production has reportedly been halted because of some internal conflicts. The long-running slasher franchise, despite all the gore, has set records in the film industry—not only restricted to movies but also reaching out through books, original merchandise, comics, as well as TV shows.

Originally, the release date for Saw XI was set for September 27th, 2024, but it was later shifted to September 26, 2025 (an entire year later) due to ongoing conflicts among the producers. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Saw XI screenwriter Patrick Milton has broken silence on the recent developments, saying:

"We haven’t heard anything since May."

He also confirmed that the stalling has been going on at a "managerial level," and the creative team is in no way involved in these things. His exact words, per THR, were:

"It’s stalled at a managerial level. It has nothing to do with the creative or anything else. There’s higher-level things at play."

Saw XI has reportedly been stalled

As per Bloody Disgusting, Saw XI (not long after it received exciting release updates) has been discontinued owing to a tumultuous production. Excitement of the fans peaked back in December 2023 when it was made official that Kevin Greutert will reprise as director for Saw XI.

Considering the BO success of the tenth film and the history of the franchise, a new project absolutely makes sense and would have been what we can say a long-awaited conclusion. But where the future of the series stands right now is the biggest question that needs to be addressed.

As per sources, things started escalating from January 2024, and producers have been in disagreement over Saw XI ever since. Furthermore, it has been reported that Lionsgate had no official to curb down the differences that led to this cancelation.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Melton mentioned in a statement, saying:

"The reason it’s held up is just, there’s inter-squabbling between producers and Lionsgate. They just can’t quite get on the same page."

He further added that the creative team has already come up with "a very timely story" and that they all want the film to be made. Melton further added:

"It taps into the same themes of Saw VI, where you’re a citizen, you feel angry and frustrated with something, you feel like you can’t do anything, and John Kramer’s going to do it."

Saw is a slasher horror/thriller franchise that released the first film on October 29, 2004. James Wan is a notable name whose contribution to Saw over the years has been immense—not to mention co-creator Leigh Whannell's input. Saw X, which premiered in 2023, got quite some positive response from the critics following mixed reviews in the earlier projects.

At the center of the film series is the infamous killer John Kramer, aka Jigsaw, who abducts normal people and traps them in an almost irreversible situation. Jigsaw then plots games and deadly tests that the victims need to pass if they want to come out of his trap.
